Pedro Suárez Vértiz is widely celebrated as one of Peru’s greatest rock legends, a musician whose talent captured the hearts of millions and placed Peruvian rock firmly on the international map.

From his vibrant performances to his emotionally resonant songwriting, Pedro seemed destined for eternal stardom.

However, behind his musical genius lay a profoundly human journey—one marked by triumph, heartbreak, and a devastating illness that eventually silenced his voice but never his spirit.

Music was woven into the fabric of his childhood through the keys of an old piano purchased by his father.

This instrument became the genesis of his lifelong passion.

At the age of 16, Pedro, alongside his brother Patricio and friends Alex Kornhuber and Arturo Pomar Jr., formed a band called Arena Hash.

Initially, they faced the usual struggles of young musicians—uncertainty, limited recognition, and financial challenges.

Yet, their undeniable talent soon broke through these barriers.

In 1988, Arena Hash released their debut album, “Arena Hash,” quickly becoming a sensation across Peru.

Hits such as “Cuando la cama me da vueltas” and “Me resfrié en Brasil” filled radios and catapulted the band to unprecedented fame.

They became the first Peruvian band to sell out Coliseo Amauta—a massive venue that previously hosted only international acts.Yet, as often happens, immense success brought its own challenges.

Internal tensions, diverging creative visions, and individual ambitions gradually pulled the band apart.

By 1993, Arena Hash gave their final performance, marking an emotional farewell to fans who had come to adore them.

This moment, however bittersweet, would be merely the beginning of a new chapter for Pedro.
